Strawn specializes in high-level stakeholder engagement, leading large-scale advocacy campaigns, as well as developing sophisticated messaging, media and public affairs campaigns for corporations, advocacy organizations, and trade associations.
Prior to his election to two terms as chairman of Iowa’s Republican Party (2009-2012), Strawn served on Capitol Hill as Chief of Staff and Counsel to Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Michigan), a member of the powerful House Energy and Commerce and Intelligence committees. Matt has also served as campaign advisor to numerous current elected officials, including U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (Iowa) and Congressman David Young (Iowa’s Third District).
Matt’s leadership and success leading over 600,000 Iowa Republicans received state and national attention. Politico named Matt an “emerging political star” to watch, while former Iowa Governor, and current U.S. Ambassador to China, Terry Branstad noted that “the Republican Party of Iowa has been stronger, more visible and imminently more successful since Matt Strawn became our leader.”

Matt is a graduate of the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law (J.D. 2003), where he graduated first in his class; the University of Iowa (B.A. 1996); and, Benton Community High School (Van Horne, Iowa), where he is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Matt serves as a Director for a number of privately-held technology companies and his family’s multi-generation farm operation in eastern Iowa. He is the former co-owner of the Iowa Barnstormers Arena Football League franchise. Matt is a member in good standing of the Maryland State Bar Association. Matt and his wife, Erin, have three children.
